The defence nobody notices
Watch a great team and you will see it: the second baseman already moving on contact, the outfielder hitting the cutoff without looking, the pitcher backing up third. None of it is instinct — it is rehearsal.
Start with the relay
Our favourite coordination drill needs six players and two balls. Two fungoes hit in quick succession force the middle infield to communicate, align and throw through the right base. Run it for fifteen minutes and the chatter starts organising itself.
Back up everything
The cheapest runs in baseball come from nobody backing up. We teach a simple rule: every throw has a trailer. Outfield throws get an infielder; infield throws get the pitcher. It looks fussy until it saves your season.
Talk early, talk loud
Calls belong to the player moving away from the ball, and they must be made early. Silent defences drop fly balls; loud ones catch them. We fine players push-ups for quiet innings — gently.
Put it into practice.
